Job Summary
- We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Account Officer graduate trainee or a graduate serving under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and young graduate to join our dynamic finance team.
- The ideal candidate is a recent graduate with a passion for numbers, finance, and accounting principles.
- This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real-world business environment.
- The Account Officer graduate trainee will provide crucial support to the finance department, assisting with daily accounting tasks, financial reporting, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records.
- You will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and schedules.
- Process and manage financial transactions, including invoices, payments, and expense claims.
- Assist with the preparation of bank reconciliations and manage petty cash transactions.
- Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Help maintain and update the general ledger.
- Assist in preparing statutory remittances, including PAYE, Pension, and VAT, ensuring compliance with Nigerian tax laws.
- File and maintain organized financial documents, both electronically and in hard copy.
- Provide support during internal and external audit processes by retrieving necessary documents and information.
- Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or other proprietary software) for data entry and record-keeping.
- Perform other administrative and accounting duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements
- NYSC Status: Must be a fresh graduate with 3 years work experience in a similar role or currently serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or have a recent call-up letter for placement in Lagos.
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of a Second Class Lower (2:2) or Lower Credit is required.
- Professional Certification: Student membership in a professional accounting body (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is an added advantage but not mandatory.
Skills and Competencies:
Technical Skills:
- Solid understanding of basic accounting and financial principles (e.g., double-entry bookkeeping, accruals).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables are a plus).
- Familiarity with accounting software is an advantage.
Soft Skills:
- High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
- A proactive and eager-to-learn attitude.
